About
Yanhu Chen is a robotics researcher whose work spans human-machine cooperation, underwater robotics, and intelligent control systems. Best known for his comprehensive 2021 review of human-machine cooperation in robotics—now cited over 117 times—Chen has established himself as a leading voice on integrating artificial intelligence with collaborative robotic frameworks, including haptic shared control architectures for real-world manipulation tasks. A significant portion of Chen's research addresses the formidable engineering challenges of underwater environments. His development of self-adapting pipe-cleaning robots capable of navigating variable-diameter steel structures on offshore oil platforms (54 citations) demonstrates his ability to translate theoretical concepts into practical industrial solutions. This work has since evolved into sophisticated investigations of Bernoulli adsorption devices, vortex suction cup optimization to minimize cavitation, and autonomous biofouling detection and boundary tracking—collectively forming a coherent research program in underwater climbing robotics. Chen has also advanced perception and control for underwater vehicle-manipulator systems, leveraging YOLO-based 3D detection for precise grasping. His dual expertise in both the mechanical design of specialized robotic platforms and the intelligent systems that govern their autonomy makes his contributions particularly valuable. With nearly 270 cumulative citations across a decade of research, Chen represents an emerging force in marine robotics and human-robot collaboration.
