About

Xiufen Ye is a pioneering robotics researcher whose work spans bio-inspired robotics, underwater autonomous systems, and human-robot interaction. Best known for developing innovative aquatic robotic platforms, Ye has made significant contributions to the design and actuation of small-scale underwater robots, most notably through the application of ionic polymer-metal composite (IPMC) actuators. His centimeter-scale robotic fish and jellyfish-type microrobots, developed between 2007 and 2008 and accumulating over 40 citations each, demonstrated that low-voltage biological mimicry could yield practical, maneuverable aquatic vehicles. His 2013 work on a multi-legged crablike robot (56 citations) extended this bio-inspired philosophy to complex terrestrial-aquatic locomotion.
