Haijun Xu is a robotics researcher whose work spans two complementary frontiers: bio-inspired underwater locomotion and adaptive terrestrial mobility systems. Early in his career, Xu made a significant mark in aquatic robotics, most notably through his highly cited 2008 study on an undulating robotic fin modeled after *Gymnarchus niloticus*, a weakly electric fish renowned for its elegant ribbon-fin propulsion.
