About

Caoyang Yu is a leading researcher in the guidance, navigation, and control of marine robotic systems, with a particular focus on fuzzy-logic-based intelligence for both surface and underwater vehicles. His seminal survey on fuzzy-logic guidance and control for marine vessels has garnered over 340 citations, establishing a foundational reference for the field. Yu’s work on intelligent risk analysis and critical decision-making for underwater robotic vehicles (136 citations) has significantly advanced the safety and autonomy of subsea operations. He has also made pioneering contributions to the design and control of hybrid underwater robotic vehicles (HURVs), including integrated software architectures and real-time communication systems that enable reliable state monitoring via fiber-optic links. More recently, Yu has developed a positive buoyancy diving autonomous vehicle that uniquely combines features of unmanned surface vessels and autonomous underwater vehicles, offering efficient techniques for marine measurement and monitoring. His research bridges theoretical control methods with practical robotic systems, making him a key figure in advancing intelligent, hybrid marine platforms for environmental and industrial applications.
