About
Zhigang Zhu is a pioneering researcher in computer vision, robotics, and assistive technology, whose work spans omnidirectional vision systems, multi-robot cooperation, and accessibility innovation. Based at the City College of New York (CCNY), Zhu has made foundational contributions to panoramic and stereoscopic vision, developing novel frameworks that enable mobile robots to perceive and interact with complex 3D environments. His early work on panoramic annular lens camera systems and omni-view image analysis for road classification established new pathways for intelligent robot navigation. Zhu's most influential research explores cooperative multi-robot localization and object tracking — his panoramic virtual stereo vision system for localizing 3D moving objects (58 citations) demonstrated how reconfigurable vision architectures could dramatically enhance robot teams operating in emergency scenarios.
