About
Minh Hung Vu is a robotics and control systems researcher whose work centers on haptic interfaces, teleoperation, and intelligent control for robotic systems. He is best known for his development of a novel 6-DOF parallel haptic device, introduced in his most-cited work (2011, 75 citations), which ingeniously combines two 3-DOF parallel structures with a steering handle to achieve low inertia, large orientation angles, and high applied torques — qualities essential for precise teleoperation of serial robots. This foundational design has informed much of his subsequent research, including dynamic modeling, impedance control, and decoupled linearization strategies for haptic-robot systems. Beyond haptic interfaces, Vu has made meaningful contributions to underwater robotics, demonstrating acoustic transducer-based remote control for 6-DOF submersible systems, and to intelligent control, applying adaptive neuro-fuzzy techniques to compensate for nonlinear friction and disturbances in robot manipulators. His later work extends these innovations into surgical training environments, improving force-tracking performance through dynamic compensation and fuzzy control. Collectively, his publications reflect a sustained commitment to bridging advanced mechanical design with sophisticated control theory, with particular relevance to teleoperation in complex, real-world settings.
