About

Ruibin Qi is a rising researcher at the intersection of intelligent manufacturing and bioinspired soft robotics. His work spans two key frontiers: precision robotic machining and eco-friendly soft actuation. In manufacturing, Qi developed a novel rigid-flexible coupling force control approach for robotic grinding of free-formed surfaces, a breakthrough that guarantees profile accuracy on complex geometries—a critical challenge for aerospace and automotive components. This work has already garnered 23 citations, signaling its impact on advanced manufacturing. Simultaneously, Qi is pioneering next-generation soft actuators. He has engineered electro-humidity responsive actuators using cellulose nanofibers and nanocrystals, enabling bioinspired applications that respond to both electrical and environmental stimuli. Most recently, his low-voltage ionic soft actuators, based on AMPS-mediated bacterial cellulose nanofibers, offer a sustainable, high-performance alternative for intelligent microrobots and flexible wearables. By combining ionic liquids with bacterial cellulose, Qi addresses the growing demand for ecofriendly, low-voltage-driven devices. His dual focus on manufacturing precision and sustainable soft robotics positions him as a versatile innovator, bridging traditional machining with cutting-edge biomimetic materials.
