About

Henry Bergner is a pioneering astronomical instrumentation scientist whose work has transformed the observational capabilities of the MMT Observatory. His primary research areas center on the design and construction of wide-field, multi-object spectrographs, with a focus on robotic fiber positioning systems. Bergner’s most significant contribution is the development of Hectospec, a 300-optical-fiber spectrograph that uses high-speed six-axis robots to reposition fibers in under 300 seconds with remarkable 25-micron accuracy.
