About
B. A. McLeod is an instrumentation astronomer whose career has been defined by the design, development, and deployment of advanced spectroscopic systems for large ground-based telescopes, particularly at the MMT Observatory on Mount Hopkins, Arizona. McLeod's most celebrated contribution is the Hectospec, a 300-fiber robotic spectrograph commissioned at the MMT in 2004, which revolutionized multi-object spectroscopy by enabling simultaneous observations of 300 targets across a one-degree field of view — a landmark achievement that has garnered over 380 citations and become an indispensable tool for large-scale galaxy surveys and stellar population studies.
