About
Shigeyuki Hosoe is a pioneering robotics researcher whose work spans human-interactive robotics, nursing-care automation, and multi-robot coordination. He is perhaps best known for leading the development of RI-MAN and its successor RIBA — groundbreaking soft robots designed to perform physically demanding caregiving tasks such as lifting and transferring patients between beds and wheelchairs. These systems, among the first of their kind, tackled the critical challenge of making robots safe and comfortable for direct human contact, earning RI-MAN citations across both 2006 and 2007 publications that together reflect strong community recognition.
