About
S. Haidacher is a pioneering roboticist whose work bridges computer vision and dexterous manipulation, with a focus on enabling robots to interact dynamically with their environment. His most influential contribution, the 2002 paper "Off-the-shelf vision for a robotic ball catcher" (102 citations), demonstrated that a standard PC-based stereo camera system could track and predict a flying ball's trajectory in real time, allowing a robot arm to catch it—a landmark achievement in reactive, vision-guided robotics. This work showcased how affordable, accessible hardware could achieve complex sensorimotor tasks, influencing subsequent research in agile robotics. Haidacher also made significant strides in robotic hand technology.
