About
P. Goldoni is an astrophysicist specializing in the multi-wavelength observation of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs), with a particular focus on their prompt near-infrared (NIR) and optical emissions. Their major contributions center on the development and application of robotic telescope technology to capture the fleeting, early moments of these cosmic explosions. Goldoni was instrumental in the REM (Rapid Eye Mount) telescope project, a pioneering robotic facility at La Silla Observatory, Chile, designed for fast, simultaneous visible-to-NIR imaging. This work, detailed in their highly cited 2001 paper (81 citations), addressed a critical need in GRB science by enabling the detection of high-redshift events obscured by Lyman-alpha absorption. Goldoni also contributed to the ECLAIRs micro-satellite concept, which aimed to provide multi-wavelength GRB prompt emission data. By pushing the boundaries of rapid-response, robotic astronomy, Goldoni’s work has been vital for probing the early universe and understanding the physics of the most energetic phenomena since the Big Bang.
