L. Tagliaferri is a leading figure in high-energy astrophysics, renowned for pioneering the rapid, multi-wavelength observation of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs). Their primary research focuses on the prompt optical and near-infrared (NIR) emission of GRB afterglows, a critical window for understanding the physics of these cataclysmic events and their use as probes of the early universe. Tagliaferri’s most significant contribution is the conception and realization of the REM (Rapid Eye Mount) telescope, a fully robotic, fast-pointing facility at La Silla Observatory.
