About
Ruben Mazzoleni is an observational astrophysicist whose career has centered on the rapid, robotic follow-up of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs)—the most luminous explosions in the universe. His primary research areas include GRB prompt emission, multi-wavelength afterglow physics, and the design of robotic observatories for time-domain astronomy. Mazzoleni’s most significant contribution is his leading role in the REM (Rapid Eye Mount) telescope project, a pioneering robotic facility at La Silla, Chile, capable of simultaneous visible and near-infrared (0.45–2.3 μm) observations. His seminal 2001 paper on REM’s design and scientific potential, which has garnered 81 citations, laid the groundwork for a new generation of fast-response instruments that capture the elusive prompt optical/NIR continuum of GRBs.
