About
Ken Ichiryu is a pioneering roboticist whose work spans disaster response robotics, wearable assistive devices, and kinematic calibration. His most significant contribution is the development of the **OCTOPUS**—a four-arm, four-crawler disaster response robot designed to navigate extremely rough, unstable terrain while performing complex debris-demolition tasks. With 26 degrees of freedom, OCTOPUS represents a leap in both mobility and workability for extreme environments. Ichiryu also advanced control strategies for multi-arm, multi-flipper crawler robots operating with minimal sensor feedback, and created a virtual reality simulator to address the challenge of teleoperating such complex systems.
