About

Jinyi Lee is a pioneering researcher whose work spans the dynamic fields of bio-inspired robotics and advanced nondestructive inspection technologies. His most impactful contributions lie in the design and control of high-performance bipedal robots, most notably through the development of Raptor, a fast-running bipedal robot inspired by the velociraptor dinosaur. This innovative work, which achieved stabilized high-speed running through an active tail and a skeletomuscular leg structure, has garnered 14 citations and represents a significant leap in dynamic locomotion. Complementing this, Lee has engineered a 2-DOF gravity compensator using bevel gears (34 citations) and a carbon/epoxy composite foot structure for biped robots, addressing critical challenges in weight reduction and energy efficiency. In parallel, Lee has made substantial strides in autonomous nondestructive testing, applying deep convolutional neural networks with transfer learning to classify defect shapes in magneto-optical inspection systems (13 citations). This work is vital for training autonomous inspection robots. With a career that also includes developing a TCP-IP-based 3D simulator for multi-robot systems, Lee demonstrates a rare ability to bridge fundamental mechanical design with cutting-edge AI, making him a key figure in advancing both agile robotics and intelligent industrial inspection.
