Fangxun Zhong is a leading roboticist whose work sits at the intersection of soft object manipulation, surgical robotics, and autonomous medical systems. His research addresses fundamental challenges in deforming, manipulating, and interacting with soft materials—from food items to human tissue—using advanced robotic control. Zhong’s most influential contribution is the development of an adaptive deformation model for automatic 3-D manipulation of soft objects by robotic arms (184 citations), which established a feedback-driven framework that has become foundational in the field.
