Jiadong Shi is a pioneering roboticist whose work sits at the intersection of surgical robotics, computer vision, and human-robot interaction. His primary research focuses on developing intelligent robotic systems for minimally invasive surgery, with a particular emphasis on functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS). Shi’s most notable contribution is the FREEDOM system—a foot-controlled, robot-enabled endoscope manipulator that directly addresses the critical bottleneck of endoscope handling during sinus procedures.
