About
E. Spirandelli is a pioneering roboticist whose career has been defined by advancing autonomous marine systems for environmental science and underwater intervention. As a key member of the robotics group at CNR-ISSIA in Genoa, their research focuses on the design, development, and field deployment of unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) and underwater intervention robots. Spirandelli’s most significant contribution is the creation of the SESAMO platform, an autonomous surface craft specifically engineered to study the sea-air interface, with its seminal 2005 paper accumulating 128 citations and demonstrating the system’s utility even in Antarctic waters. They further expanded the field through the ALANIS USV for coastal monitoring and the e-URoPe reconfgurable AUV/ROV for human-robot cooperation.
