About
Bin Xian is a prominent robotics and control systems researcher whose work spans robot manipulator control, aerial robotics, and brain-computer interface technologies. His foundational contributions to task-space tracking control of robot manipulators — particularly his pioneering use of quaternion-based feedback for precise end-effector orientation tracking — have earned him over 100 citations and established him as a key voice in nonlinear control theory. His Lyapunov-based methodologies, applied to both rigid and flexible robotic systems including piezoelectric-actuated Cartesian manipulators, reflect a deep commitment to mathematically rigorous, stability-guaranteed control design, further consolidated in his 2009 book *Lyapunov-Based Control of Robotic Systems*. Xian has also addressed the practical challenges of kinematic and dynamic uncertainty in robot control and extended his expertise to unmanned aerial vehicles, developing robust tracking controllers for quadrotors under parametric uncertainty. More recently, his 2017 review of EEG-based brain-robot interaction systems — cited over 70 times — demonstrates his versatility and growing interest in assistive and human-machine interface technologies. Across more than two decades of research, Xian's work has meaningfully advanced both the theoretical foundations and real-world applicability of intelligent robotic control.
