About
Avak Archanian is a pioneering roboticist at the forefront of extreme-terrain autonomy and space exploration. His research centers on developing intelligent, resilient robotic systems capable of operating in the most challenging environments on Earth and beyond—from icy moons like Enceladus to subterranean caves. Archanian’s major contributions include leading the development of the EELS (Exobiology Extant Life Surveyor) snake-like robot, a modular platform with active skin propulsion designed for vertical mobility in glacier crevasses and ice-world vent systems. This work, with over 80 combined citations, represents a paradigm shift toward one-shot exploration missions with in-situ adaptation.
