About

Fletcher Talbot is a leading roboticist whose work focuses on heterogeneous multi-robot systems, legged locomotion, and autonomous exploration of extreme environments. As a key member of Team CSIRO Data61, Talbot made a landmark contribution to the DARPA Subterranean Challenge, where his team tied for the top score by deploying a heterogeneous team of ground and aerial robots with unified perception and autonomy—a feat detailed in his highly cited 2022 paper (97 citations). He is the designer of Magneto, a versatile multi-limbed climbing robot (66 citations) that uses compliant magnetic feet and a deformable body to squeeze through confined spaces, and the Multilegged Autonomous eXplorer (MAX), an ultralight six-legged robot for traversing complex terrain.
