Zhou Xu is a pioneering astronomer whose work has significantly advanced our understanding of the universe from one of Earth's most extreme environments: Dome A, Antarctica. His research focuses on observational astronomy, particularly the development and utilization of robotic telescopes for time-domain and wide-field surveys in harsh conditions. Xu's most notable contribution is his leadership in the first release of the CSTAR (Chinese Small Telescope ARray) Point Source Catalog in 2010, a landmark achievement that demonstrated the viability of high-quality optical astronomy from the highest point on the Antarctic plateau.
