About
Zhanhai Zhang is a leading figure in Antarctic astronomy, specializing in the development and deployment of optical telescopes in one of Earth’s most extreme environments. His most significant contribution came with the first release of the CSTAR (Chinese Small Telescope ARray) Point Source Catalog from Dome A, Antarctica, a landmark 2010 paper that has garnered 40 citations. This work demonstrated the feasibility of high-cadence, wide-field photometric surveys from the highest point on the Antarctic plateau, where exceptional atmospheric stability and long polar nights offer unique advantages for time-domain astronomy.
