V. K. Viswanathan is a rising force in soft robotics, pushing the boundaries of how machines interact with the world through compliant, adaptable design. His research centers on two pivotal challenges: modeling the complex, nonlinear behavior of soft structures and engineering grippers that go beyond simple grasping. In his highly cited 2024 work, "PINN-Ray," Viswanathan pioneered the use of Physics-Informed Neural Networks to create a surrogate model for soft robotic Fin Ray fingers, achieving both high accuracy and fast inference speed—a critical step for enabling safe, real-time interaction.
