About

Tianzuo Chang is a pioneering researcher in the emerging field of supernumerary robotic limbs (SRLs), a class of wearable robots designed to augment human capability by providing extra, functional limbs. His work focuses on the complete lifecycle of SRL design—from conceptual frameworks to human–machine interaction safety. In his highly cited 2022 review, Chang systematically surveyed the design landscape of SRLs, establishing a foundational taxonomy for the field. He has since advanced the discipline through multi-objective optimization of collaborative workspaces and the development of novel surface electromyography (sEMG)-based force interaction strategies, enabling more intuitive and safer control. His contributions to semi-physical simulation platforms allow for realistic, low-risk testing of these augmentation systems before physical deployment.
