About
Tarunraj Singh is a leading researcher in control systems, with a focus on optimal and robust control of flexible structures, wheeled mobile robots, and autonomous systems. His seminal work on robust time-delay control, published in 1995 and cited over 80 times, introduced a pioneering method for designing open-loop controllers that cancel residual vibrations in flexible structures by using multiple delayed step inputs. This approach, which also incorporates robustness by placing additional zeros, has had a lasting impact on vibration control. Singh has also made significant contributions to sliding-mode and shaped-input control for flexible/rigid link robots, and more recently, he has advanced energy-time optimal control for wheeled mobile robots, with several papers from 2021 to 2024 earning over 40 combined citations. His work on sequential linear programming for time-optimal controller design and optimal information collection for nonlinear systems further demonstrates his versatility. Notably, his research on potential functions for en-route air traffic management highlights his ability to apply control theory to complex, real-world problems. With a career spanning three decades, Singh’s innovations continue to influence both theoretical developments and practical applications in robotics and automation.
