About

Seongpung Lee is a leading figure in the development of surgical robotics, with a focused expertise in bone surgery, minimally invasive procedures, and image-guided intervention. His work is distinguished by the creation of novel remote center of motion (RCM) mechanisms, which are critical for precise bone drilling and fracture reduction. Lee’s contributions include the design of high-resolution, high-rigidity RCM mechanisms and wire-driven flexible manipulators that enhance surgical accuracy and safety. His research has achieved significant impact, with key papers on compact bone surgery robots and 3D image-guided systems for fracture reduction each garnering 23 and 16 citations, respectively. Notably, Lee has pioneered optical tracker-free robotic systems, addressing line-of-sight limitations in surgical navigation, and has validated his technologies through cadaver studies, such as those for mastoidectomy and spinal surgery. His work on robot–patient registration and end-effector rehabilitation robots further showcases his versatility. With a publication record spanning from 2017 to 2022, Lee’s innovations are shaping the future of precision surgery, offering solutions that reduce radiation exposure and improve patient outcomes.
