Pietro Buttolo is a leading figure in the fields of haptics, teleoperation, and micro-robotics, whose work has fundamentally advanced the precision manipulation of virtual and remote environments. His most influential contribution is the development of a pen-based force display for virtual environments (2002, 67 citations), which introduced a novel serial-parallel manipulator architecture that dramatically improved the realism and precision of haptic feedback.
