About

Naiyu Shi is a robotics researcher whose work focuses on the design of novel, high-performance actuators and locomotion systems for robots operating in complex environments. Shi’s major contributions lie in two key areas: adaptive robotic grasping and in-pipe inspection robotics. In their 2023 work on a back-drivable rotational force actuator, Shi introduced a compact rotary series elastic actuator (RSEA) featuring an innovative arc groove design that significantly reduces system dimensions while enabling safe, adaptive grasping.
