About
Dr. Mouna Souissi is a pioneering roboticist whose research bridges the critical gap between humanoid biomechanics and precision medicine. Her work spans two distinct but equally innovative domains: the design of bio-inspired humanoid spines and the development of advanced robotic platforms for targeted inner ear drug delivery. In her early career, Dr. Souissi made significant contributions to humanoid robotics by modeling and optimizing vertebral column mechanisms. She investigated how pitch joints in a robotic spine influence flexion movements for daily tasks like sitting and bending, and designed parallel modular mechanisms to minimize torque in humanoid waists. However, her most impactful work lies in medical microrobotics. Her highly cited 2018 paper on a macro–micromanipulation platform for inner ear drug delivery (44 citations) established a novel approach to treating cochlear disorders. She has since developed a robotized magnetic platform and a remote-center-of-motion serial manipulator, enabling precise steering of magnetic microparticles for non-invasive drug delivery. By integrating permanent magnet actuators with serial and parallel manipulators, Dr. Souissi has created a compelling framework for treating sensitive anatomical regions, demonstrating how robotic precision can revolutionize targeted therapeutics.
