About
Koji Ueda is a robotics engineer whose work spans rescue robotics, underwater exploration, and medical physics. His primary research focuses on developing mobile manipulators for hazardous environments—most notably the HELIOS series of arm-equipped tracked vehicles designed for urban search and rescue and nuclear decommissioning tasks. Ueda’s contributions include the HELIOS IX, a remotely-operated vehicle capable of opening doors, climbing stairs, and handling objects in disaster zones, and the HELIOS X, a mobile manipulator purpose-built for nuclear plant decommissioning.
