About

Kishore Pochiraju is a robotics researcher whose work spans 3D perception, human motion analysis, and novel mobility systems. His most influential contribution is the "Color point cloud registration with 4D ICP algorithm" (116 citations), which revolutionized 3D mapping by integrating hue data from imagery into the Iterative Closest Point algorithm, enabling faster and more accurate registration of point cloud segments. In human-robot interaction, his study on "Low-Dimensional Synergistic Representation of Bilateral Reaching Movements" (30 citations) used sparse optimization to uncover kinematic synergies in bilateral arm movements, with implications for rehabilitation robotics. Pochiraju also developed the ROAMS mobile mapping robot (12 citations), a low-cost system for rapid 3D mapping of indoor/outdoor environments. His work on omnidirectional mobility includes machine learning-aided design of magnetically coupled ball drives (8 citations) and multi-ball drive systems for holonomic ground robots. More recently, he has pioneered Gaussian process motion planning for unmanned underwater vehicles navigating complex seafloor terrain (2024), and developed a personalized ankle exoskeleton with co-located series elastic actuators for gait training (2024). His research on heterogeneous robot teams with personality-adjusted learning (2013) explores how personality traits can improve multi-robot coordination.
