About

Huei Ee Yap is a robotics researcher whose work spans dynamic locomotion, human-robot interaction, and industrial automation. Yap is best known for pioneering control strategies that enable two-wheeled mobile robots to traverse complex terrains, particularly stairs and steps. In their highly cited 2012 paper, Yap introduced a novel approach using the robot’s drive wheels as reaction wheels during flight to generate torque, allowing the robot to adjust its landing angle and maintain balance—a breakthrough for agile, minimalist robot design.
