About
Chin Pei Tang is a robotics researcher whose work spans cooperative multi-robot systems, mobile manipulation, cable robots, and motion planning and control. His research has made significant contributions to the theoretical and practical foundations of how groups of robots can work together to accomplish complex tasks beyond the capabilities of any single agent. Tang's most influential work, "Formation Optimization for a Fleet of Wheeled Mobile Robots" (2008, 49 citations), introduced elegant geometric approaches to coordinating robot fleets. Complementing this, his trio of 2006 papers on cooperative payload transport by mobile manipulator collectives — drawing on screw-theoretic and kinematically compatible frameworks — established rigorous analysis tools for multi-robot cooperation, collectively accumulating over 97 citations. His exploration of mobile cable robots, both through screw-theoretic analysis and cooperative frameworks (2012), extended the conventional fixed-base cable robot paradigm into dynamic, mobile configurations. Beyond multi-robot systems, Tang contributed a differential flatness-based control framework for wheeled mobile robots (2009) and advanced cable robot trajectory tracking through active stiffness control (2010). His body of work, totaling well over 270 citations, reflects a consistent commitment to mathematically principled, practically motivated solutions that have meaningfully shaped the field of cooperative robotics.
