About

Sotiris Stavridis is a robotics researcher whose work sits at the intersection of motion planning, bimanual manipulation, and human-robot interaction. His research has made significant contributions to the development of intelligent robotic systems capable of operating in dynamic, real-world environments. Among his most influential work is a 2018 study on bimanual assembly (53 citations), which introduced a novel approach to motion generation in the relative end-effector frame, enabling more flexible and efficient two-arm coordination. His 2017 paper on dynamical system-based motion generation with obstacle avoidance (47 citations) proposed a robust real-time framework that remains widely referenced in the field. Stavridis has also advanced mobile dual-arm manipulation (40 citations) and pioneered safety-critical human-robot interaction for surgical robotics, developing passive controllers that use point cloud data to protect sensitive tissues during procedures (34 citations). His contributions to kinesthetic teaching for both single and bimanual robotic systems have helped bridge the gap between human skill transfer and robotic learning. More recently, he has explored agricultural robotics through human-inspired harvesting strategies and broadened his scope to STEM education through robotics. With a growing citation record exceeding 280 cumulative citations, Stavridis represents a versatile and impactful voice in modern robotics research.
