About
Dr. Runrun Zhang is pioneering the next generation of soft, intelligent materials for human-machine interfaces (HMIs) and robotic tactile perception. Her research centers on the design of ultrasoft hydrogels and bionic textile sensory systems, addressing the critical challenge of simultaneously achieving mechanical robustness, high sensitivity, and conformability. Dr. Zhang’s major contributions include the development of a gradiently foaming ultrasoft hydrogel with stop holes, which enables highly deformable, crack-resistant, and sensitive conformal HMIs—a breakthrough cited 72 times since 2024. She has also engineered a bionic textile sensory system that emulates both slow and fast adaptive mechanoreceptors, granting humanoid robots the ability to intelligently recognize textures (41 citations, 2025). Her work on MXene-assisted rapid gelation and foaming further enhances tactile sensing by regulating charge accumulation and dissipation (19 citations, 2025). With over 130 total citations in just two years, Dr. Zhang’s innovations are setting new standards for wearable electronics and advanced prosthetics, making her a rising leader in soft robotics and intelligent sensing.
