About
R. M. C. Bodduluri has made foundational contributions to robot kinematics, path planning, and cooperative manipulation. His work addresses core challenges in multi-robot coordination, including how two or more manipulators can safely and efficiently handle a shared workpiece. In his highly cited 1990 paper, "Planning movement for two PUMA manipulators holding the same object," he developed early strategies for synchronized motion that remain relevant to modern collaborative robotics. His 2003 paper, "A general robot path planning algorithm," introduced a versatile method applicable to any holonomically constrained system, using stepwise movements along hypercube edges—a computationally efficient approach that has influenced subsequent planning research. Bodduluri also contributed to medical robotics, co-authoring a 2002 overview of X-ray guided robotic radiosurgery for solid tumors, which described a system where a robot-mounted linear accelerator delivers precise radiation doses. Additionally, his 1989 bibliography on robot kinematics, workspace analysis, and path planning served as an essential reference for researchers entering the field. With over a dozen citations across his key works, Bodduluri’s research bridges theoretical planning algorithms and practical applications in both industrial and medical robotics.
