About
P. Conconi is a leading figure in the development of robotic, multi-wavelength observatories for time-domain astrophysics, with a particular focus on Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs). Their most significant contribution is the conception and realization of the Rapid Eye Mount (REM) telescope, a fully robotic facility at La Silla, Chile, designed for the prompt, simultaneous optical and near-infrared (NIR) follow-up of GRB triggers from satellites like Swift. Conconi’s work on REM, detailed in papers with over 80 and 60 citations, revolutionized the field by enabling the first observations of the prompt NIR afterglow, crucial for studying high-redshift bursts and the early physics of these cataclysmic events.
