Muhammad Mujtaba is a robotics researcher whose work spans foundational robot control theory to practical field robotics. He is best known for his seminal contributions to hybrid position/force control, where he resolved a long-standing misconception about "kinematic instability" in robot manipulators. His 1992 paper, with 98 citations, conclusively demonstrated that instability was not inherent to the scheme but resulted from an incomplete formulation—specifically identifying the inverse Jacobian matrix as the root cause. He further established a sufficient stability condition using only kinematic information to predict system behavior.
