About
Masato Tsuru is a pioneering roboticist whose work sits at the intersection of humanoid autonomy, telepresence, and real-time environmental perception. His research centers on enabling humanoid robots to navigate and interact with unknown, unstructured environments through advanced sensing and motion planning. In his most impactful work, Tsuru introduced a framework for autonomous object searching using 3D-SLAM, allowing a humanoid robot to dynamically determine optimal viewpoints while walking—a critical step toward practical deployment in disaster response or domestic assistance. He further advanced the field with ExOctomap, a semantic 3D voxel mapping system that enables rapid online multi-contact motion replanning, overcoming the limitations of traditional polygon-mesh approaches.
