Mahesh Dissanayake is a robotics and engineering researcher whose work centers on the design and development of specialized climbing robots for hazardous industrial inspection applications. His most significant contributions lie in advancing autonomous robotic platforms capable of navigating the geometrically complex and structurally demanding environments of offshore mooring chains — a field that was largely underdeveloped when he began publishing in this area. Dissanayake's pioneering research, conducted largely within the RIMCAW project, produced adaptable legged-magnetic adhesion tracked-wheel robotic systems capable of climbing misaligned mooring chains under challenging offshore conditions.
