About

Byungjun Jeon is a rising leader in soft robotics and stretchable electronics, whose work reimagines how machines can move and interact with the world. His research centers on soft electromagnetic actuators and liquid-metal printing, tackling the fundamental challenge of creating fully compliant, electrically powered artificial muscles. In his landmark 2023 paper, Jeon introduced Soft Electromagnetic Artificial Muscles (SEAMs)—the first actuators to combine high-density liquid-metal solenoid coils with bistable stretchable magnetic housings, enabling rapid, electrically driven motion without rigid components. This work has already garnered 57 citations for its paradigm-shifting approach to soft actuation. Earlier, Jeon pioneered a direct printing method for sub-30 µm liquid-metal patterns on three-dimensional surfaces, solving a critical bottleneck in stretchable circuit fabrication.
