About

Zhuoyi He is a pioneering researcher in smart materials and soft robotics, with a focus on magnetorheological elastomers (MREs), magnetorheological fluids (MRFs), and permanent magnet elastomers (PMEs). His major contributions include the development of an electropermanent magnet–MRE hybrid system for soft actuation and robotic grasping, which eliminates the need for external pressure sources—addressing key limitations in conventional soft grippers. He also designed a vacuum suction cup using MREs for wall-climbing robots and flat-surface picking, and created a PME-infused soft robot skin for tactile sensing, inspired by human skin.
