About
Yinan Deng is a pioneering roboticist whose research bridges the frontiers of autonomous exploration and medical robotics. His work is defined by two key areas: ground-air collaborative systems for active mapping, and force-sensitive control for surgical robots. In his landmark 2024 paper, "SAME: Ground-Air Collaborative Semantic Active Mapping and Exploration," Deng introduced a novel framework that integrates aerial and ground robots to leverage multi-perspective visual fields and high maneuverability, enabling robust mapping and navigation in complex environments—a contribution that has already garnered 10 citations. Simultaneously, Deng has made significant strides in robotic flexible ureteroscopy (rFURS). He developed a probability-based force control strategy to prevent excessive collision forces that could damage urinary tissue, addressing the critical challenge of uncertainty from passive instrument flexure. Complementing this, he designed a miniature fiber optic sensor to measure axial force at the ureteroscope tip, a breakthrough for mitigating tissue injury during kidney stone treatment.
