About

Yaoyao Jiang is pioneering the development of next-generation soft actuators and bioinspired robotic systems, with a particular focus on liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs) and their composites. Her major contributions include inventing a scalable method for continuous production of monodomain LCE fibers that achieve a remarkable 55.6% reversible contraction—a breakthrough for artificial muscle applications. She has also engineered high-strength, dual-crosslinking network LCEs using quadruple hydrogen bonds, overcoming the longstanding trade-off between mechanical robustness and large deformation.
