About
U. Stanzin is an astronomer and instrumentation specialist at the forefront of time-domain astrophysics in India. Her primary research focuses on the development and automation of robotic telescopes, enabling rapid, autonomous responses to transient cosmic events. Stanzin played a pivotal role in establishing the GROWTH-India Telescope (GIT), a 70 cm robotic facility with a wide 0.7-degree field of view, set up by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics and IIT Bombay. This instrument, her most cited work (31 citations), serves as India’s first dedicated robotic eye for time-domain studies, scanning the skies for supernovae, gamma-ray bursts, and other fleeting phenomena. She also led the control system upgrade for the 50 cm telescope at the Indian Astronomical Observatory, designing a low-cost, high-precision telescope control system (TCS) and observatory control software (OCS) that dramatically improved pointing and tracking accuracy. Her work is supported by the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum, highlighting its international significance.
