About

Sahoon Ahn is a rising force in field robotics, specializing in the development of autonomous systems for challenging built environments. His research centers on three key areas: façade operation robots, stair-climbing delivery platforms, and novel locomotion mechanisms. Ahn’s most significant contribution is the creation of the WAVE robot, a four-bar linkage-based platform designed for last-mile delivery that can seamlessly traverse both flat ground and stairways. This work, which has garnered 8 citations, addresses a critical gap in autonomous logistics. He has also made substantial advances in façade maintenance robotics, developing a rope-driven system with an embedded ascender for convex surfaces (12 citations) and a thruster-driven adhesion model for stable operation (6 citations). His work on rope-slip models for position prediction (10 citations) further demonstrates his deep technical expertise in mechanical design and control. Ahn’s recent innovations include a two-DoF turret mechanism for 3D façade climbing and a novel rope-based anchoring system to reduce residual vibrations. With a growing citation impact and a focus on solving real-world problems from skyscraper maintenance to urban delivery, Ahn is establishing himself as a leading innovator in practical, deployable robotics.
