Otto Hasekamp is a leading atmospheric scientist whose research centers on the remote sensing of aerosols — tiny airborne particles with profound effects on climate, air quality, and human health. Based at SRON – the Netherlands Institute for Space Research, Hasekamp has made transformative contributions to the retrieval of aerosol microphysical and optical properties from satellite-based polarimetric measurements, pioneering algorithms that exploit both intensity and polarization of reflected sunlight across multiple viewing angles and wavelengths.
