Peng‐Wang Zhai is a leading figure in ocean color remote sensing, specializing in the development of advanced atmospheric correction algorithms that enable accurate retrieval of water properties from space. His research focuses on the challenging domain of coastal and open ocean waters, where complex interactions between aerosols and hydrosols have historically hindered satellite observations. Zhai’s major contributions include the creation of the joint retrieval algorithm for aerosol and water-leaving radiance properties using multi-angle polarimetric measurements, a technique that significantly improves the fidelity of hyperspectral ocean color data.
